Those are the wires for the brake magnets. You will need to connect the black wire to the brake controller output wire on your trailer connector and you are correct the white wire will need to be grounded to a clean metal surface on the trailer. I've attached a wiring diagram for the 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector # H20044, however there is no guide available to tell us the wire color functions on the trailer so you'll have to test each wire in order to determine its function. If your current plug is still functioning then I recommend connecting to your vehicle and going through each function and testing the wires for power with a circuit tester # PTW2993 at the junction box of the trailer.
